For sophisticated investors, at least one of the following will apply: you have previously made investments in unlisted companies (within the last two years); you have been a member of a business angel network for at least six months; you have worked (during the past two years) in private equity or the provision of finance for small and medium enterprises OR you have been a director of a company with at least £1 million turnover (during the past two years). Employees of an investment firms such as a venture capital or pension funds, who will be investing in this professional capacity. High Net Worth Individual
Individuals who earn more than £100,000 per year, or have net assets of more than £250,000 are classified as High Net Worth. Advised Investor
An advised investor is an existing customer of a regulated financial advisor who will provide advice on whether investments are suitable. Everyday Investor
The definition of an everyday investor is simple – anyone who doesn’t belong to any of the categories above. In this case you will need to confirm you will not invest more that 10% of your net investible financial assets in these kinds of investments (unlisted securities). This means you certify that you will only invest money that does not affect your primary residence, pensions and life cover etc.
